Between school and work (two jobs now) I have barely managed to have a life. My apartment has been a complete mess and I am desperate to see some close friends that I have sadly neglected in the chaos.

Let me tell you, I have harbored some animosity in regards to school and it's takeover of my life. However, this morning I was suprised to find myself enjoying a quiet little moment at the Student Union with a cup of coffee and I nice view of midtown.

Speaking of school, here are some photos I took for my photography class. I developed the negatives and enlarged the prints myself. A new skill I'm learning and really enjoying.

I've always been afraid to use film cameras because in the past every time I tried to load film I wouldn't do it right and the film would end up getting exposed. Well I decided that instead of living in fear I'd take a photography class at UMKC.

My friend Colin graciously allowed me to borrow his Nikon hard body camera. Not sure about model. There are a lot of problems with these but at least they aren't all terrible!

Tuesday was National Thrift Shop Day. I, unaware of this fact, went to the John Knox Village Thrift Shop (a thrift shop run by a retirement community) with Lindsey and found a lot of treasures. I found out later that morning that it was National Thrift Shop Day and was very much jazzed.

Very busy weekend. Also, long story short: my roommate is moving out. James and I will be turning his former room into a homeoffice/workspace/craftroom. It's a perfect time to be buying random apartment things because a bunch of stores (our favorite being Target) have a lot of home decor/organization/stuff on sale targeted at college students moving into dorms and apartments. I've had a nice long Independence Day weekend. Yesterday I made cupcakes with James. Vegan cupcakes/cakes are really easy to make if you can find a box mix that is vegan. Instead of adding water, oil and eggs you can add a little less than a can of soda (I used 3/4 of a can of cola for these red velvet cupcakes). I also wussed out and bought pre-made frosting and added food coloring. The frosting was pretty melty but delicious.

James and I also went to Teadrops on Saturday after some antique shopping and before some clothing shopping. Iced rose bubble tea with soy and hummus with pita chips and carrot sticks. Yum ^_^

I also took some pictures of my friend Sarah amongst some greenery. Here are a few of my favorites.

James and I are moving to an apartment in Kansas City, MO this Saturday. In preparation, I have been starting a garden to move over there. We don't have access to outdoor growing space so we will be growing it all indoors.

I took these pictures of them on my back porch at my parents' house.

Because they will be indoors we will be using grow lights. I found a great article on ourwindowfarms concerning grow lights. I definately recommend it for anyone who wants a good primer on using artificial light.

After a couple of weeks of organizing my office/studio space I have actually started working! Sarah and I have started a project consisting of some dress designs. She is a thrifting maven and has gathered some fabulous recycled fabrics for us to use.

Above is my to-do board. You can see I have changed 0 of 10 dresses to 1 of 10! This first dress is made from leftover fabric I already had in my stash. The dress is just a basic dress I drafted. The drafting was really excited because I had never tried that before.

I'm also planning a personal knitting project with this pink/rainbow yarn. I think it's going to be a cowl. I am turning into a rainbow fanatic and this yarn was garage sale yarn that had found its way into my stash. I'm really excited about.

And I posted pictures of my new tattoos earlier but I figured I would take some better quality pictures (as opposed to iPhone).

I just bought myself a new camera. It's a NIkon D3000. I'm really excited about it because the quality is a million times better than my previous camera (a Kodak point and shoot) that was so primative I preferred to just use my iPhone.

I'm also in love with these granny glasses. I've had them forever and I just rediscovered them when organizing my studio space.

Look what Lindsey has done to her feet

A fabulous birthday present to herself!

And look what I've been doing to my hair.

Hot rollers are my favorite way to style my hair. It feels so glamorous to put my hair up in hot roller while sitting at my lighted vanity mirror. All I need now is a bottle of Chanel No 9 and a jewelry tray at my side.

Last night, for her birthday, Lindsey also got her nose pierced. She got one piercing on each side. She hasn't sent me a picture yet.

This weekend feels bittersweet because I have three essays to write and a test to take. I don't anticipate any fabulous outings.

Rachel of Rachel Red Lips and Red Lips Vintage is hosting a giveaway on her blog for a "Look for Less" outfit. I love the idea Rachel has come up with. She took inspiration from a Copenhagen Street Style photo of a very stylish man and woman and she and Alex went thrifting and replicated the outfits.

Rachel and Alex were able to replicate the outfits for $5.85 and $6.38. I am very impressed. I definately want to take a page from Rachel's book and make a day out of it with James or with Lindsey (or maybe both). It seems like a very fun and inexpensive way to spend a Saturday or Sunday.

Seeing as it doesn't seem like winter is going to be winding down anytime soon, I've found myself inspired to make a quilt. I've made several quilts in the past with my grandma who used to own a quilt shop and now makes quilts on commision in her basement. She has a fullsize quilting machine in her basement. I used to spend weekends with her and my grandpa and make quilts during the day while listening to the Grease soundtrack on vinyl.

I've been inspired by Crux blankets posted by Door Sixteen that I found via A CUP OF JO.

The quilts appear to be made of a thick felt or wool and they are reversible. I love the idea of reversible blankets, especially with such a simple design as these. I'm especially partial to the brown and white colorscheme but all of the color combinations on Door Sixteen's post are nice. I wouldn't be unhappy to have any of them.

I had a great birthday and thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday. The highlight of yesterday was taking the jingle bell off the end of a balloon from my coworkers and tying it to my puppy's collar. He was like a little reindeer. Too cute.

I have a feeling this week is going to fly by for me. I hope everyone has a wonderful week and that the weekend arrives for you as quickly.

It's my birthday today. I had a really nice weekend with my boyfriend. He got me PETA's Vegan College Cookbook. My parents got me a ukulele. I've been having a lot of fun playing songs by The Postal Service
and Peter, Paul and Mary.

I made a peanut butter and banana pie (modified recipe from the cookbook) yesterday and ate some this morning with my coffee. My dad called me from work (he leaves before I get up) and wished me a happy birthday. A good start to this 19th year of my life.

I have a lot of plans for this next year and I think there is much fun ahead of me. Stay tuned.

Saturday was Jd and I's 2 1/2 year! I added some pictures of us (all at least a year old! but these are the best), we have changed so much over the years! We look so little in the second one. It was such a lovely day, although we did not do very much at all. We went and saw New Moon in the morning with my mom (Jd is a big fan of the Twilight Series.. he is not a Twi-Hard though). I've always thought it was cute when boys like Twilight. Then later, we had dinner at a newly found favorite of mine, Spin Pizza. I had an extremely good white pizza with spinach and apples. Then we hung out at his house with his family and watched Regligious (documetary) and it was very interesting.

I also included a daily outfit photo (although this was not todays outfit! from last week I forgot to post). I found this vest while thrifting with Kelsey last week (which we also went again today). My hair is also dark, dark brown now! I will be posting a picture shortly of the change.

I love HEL LOOKS because of the fearless layering. I guess that's the kind of style you end up with in Finland. Who? Lindsey Bales (Senior at Lee's Summit High School) and Kelsey Leftwich (Freshman at UMKC). Two friends drawn together by their love of fashion, art, and starbucks coffee

We both have started other blogs in the past, but we thought of the idea to start a blog together to keep us willing to update daily. We thought it would be fun to have a combined blog between the two of us. This way we could provide even more ideas and inspiration in this little blog.

This blog is about fashion, art, movies, and whatever else is happening in our lives as we write a blog post.
